Can you climb Mexican Hat Rock?

Yes. You can hike to the top of Mexican Hat Rock right under neath the hat brim. The trail is easy from the road way until you get closer the rock. Once you get close you will have to be comfortable scrambling up a few places.

Rock climbers have and do climb from underneath the brim of the rock hat. There are a few piton that allow expert rock climbers to get up over the overhang.

Is Mexican Hat on the reservation?

Mexican Hat Rock is not on the reservation. Mexican Hat the town is a border town. The Reservation border is defined by the river.

How far is Monument Valley from Mexican Hat Utah?

Monument Valley to Mexican Hat is a short 30 minute drive. Its 20 mile distance. Forrest Gump hill is a point of interest along the way and worth the stop.

The Hat rock is surprisingly large! The stone measures 60ft long by 12ft wide. It stands 336 ft above the river bed and 1,000 ft from the San Juan River. It has a prominence of 75 ft. Mexican Hat was once called Sheepeater's Monument.
